Chimera is an artist's book, addressing the idea of beauty through elements
explored in the fifth installment of the Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.
The exhibition curates beauty into seven categories: extravagant, intricate, transgressive, emergent, elemental, and transformative. Chimera studies each of these qualities through the lens of male beauty, especially in the context of men loving men. Excerpts of prose and poetry offer deeply intimate experiences of adolescent liaisons and fleeting romances. The volume incorporates sensitive and unexpected uses of symmetry, typography, color, and transparency to celebrate the marriage of beauty and homoeroticism.
